Everyone has something to give
Volunteering in Scouting is fun and rewarding. You will have the chance to learn new skills, rediscover adventure, make new friends, spend more time with your child and give something back to your community.
There is a recently introduced role of ‘Occasional Helper’ for people that are involved on a semi-regular basis: i.e. more than once a month. The ‘Occasional Helper’ form is designed for adult helpers who are involved through a parent rota, or on an informal basis.
If you are involved significantly more often than this, you should consider becoming a Section Assistant and fill in an Adult Application form.
All adults that come into contact with young people are required by law to complete a Criminal Records Disclosure check, which must be renewed at five yearly intervals. This includes Warranted Leaders, Occasional Helpers, and Activities Authorisations. Similarly, Officers of the Group, i.e. the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, must also be checked.
Additionally, the Scout Association recommend that all adults, especially those attending camps, or who may have any form of contact with our young members, should be checked. This involves completing the ‘Occasional Helper’ form to start the process, which requires the person to prove their identity.
